Arsenal 2-1 Crystal Palace: Ramsey bags late winner for relieved Gunners

Arsenal left it late to secure victory on the opening day of the season with a 2-1 win over managerless Crystal Palace.

The home side dominated possession for large periods of the opening half but found themselves behind as Brede Hangeland rose to head the visitors in front from a corner.

The hosts managed to pull themselves back into the game before the break though, when Laurent Koscielny flicked Alexis Sanchez’s free kick beyond Julian Speroni.

Arsene Wenger’s men huffed and puffed in the second half but struggled to break their opponents down.

Jason Puncheon was sent off for a second bookable offence late in the game, and just when it looked like both sides would be collecting a point, Aaron Ramsey popped up to pounce on a Speroni parry and bundle home the winner.
