Benfica 1-0 Monaco: Eagles soar after late Talisca strike

Benfica edged an absorbing encounter at the Estadio da Luz to put themselves back in contention in Champions League Group C
Talisca scored a late winner to reignite Benfica's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages.

It looked for so long as though the hosts' pressure would go unrewarded with Monaco looking to return to the principality with a draw which would have left them in a strong position in Group C.

But the visitors' rearguard was finally breached for the first time in the competition with eight minutes to go.

Nicolas Gaitan's corner was flicked on by Derley at the near post and Talisca bundled it past Monaco goalkeeper Danijel Subasic.

The win means Benfica move level with third-placed Zenit St Petersburg, a point behind Monaco in second.
