Ancelotti praises Hoffenheim after rare Bayern defeat

Bayern Munich suffered just their second Bundesliga defeat of 2016-17 and Carlo Ancelotti was gracious to their conquerors Hoffenheim.

Carlo Ancelotti felt Bayern Munich were caught cold by in-form Hoffenheim after the runaway leaders suffered just their second Bundesliga defeat of the season on Tuesday.

Andrej Kramaric scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half, although the hosts deserved to be further ahead at the break after dominating Bayern in the opening 45 minutes.

Bayern improved in the second period but still could not find an equaliser as the champions lost to Hoffenheim for the first time in the 18th meeting of the two teams.

Freiburg 2-1 Bayern Munich: Petersen bags priceless winner against champions

Bastian Schweinsteiger put Pep Guardiola's men in front but the hosts came back to secure a win which could keep them in the Bundesliga
Freiburg came from behind to beat Bayern Munich 2-1 on Saturday and give their chances of survival a massive boost.

Nils Petersen -  who spent two years with Bayern earlier in his career - was introduced as an 87th-minute replacement for fellow goalscorer Admir Mehmedi.

And with almost his first touch he turned home from a precise cross to give the struggling hosts victory at the Schwarzwald Stadion, which boosted their survival hopes and sent Bayern to a third straight league defeat.

Bastian Schweinsteiger had earlier scored on his 500th competitive appearance for Bayern, but his first-half strike was a rare bright spot for Pep Guardiola's embattled side.

Freiburg drew level through Mehmedi's equaliser 12 minutes before the break and, in the end, they were value for their late winner.

Bayern showed signs of tiredness following their midweek Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona, and the result will do little to ease the negative press Guardiola has faced - despite having wrapped the title up with room to spare again this term.
Guardiola showed faith in the under-fire Mario Gotze, naming the Germany international in his attack alongside Robert Lewandowski and Mitchell Weiser.

The first chance fell to Gotze on the edge of the area after two minutes, but he scuffed his shot and saw it easily saved.

Wolfsburg 2-1 Borussia Dortmund: Record-equalling De Bruyne dents BVB's Europa hopes

The Belgian moved to 20 league assists for the season after setting up Daniel Caligiuri and Naldo for the decisive goals either side of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's penalty
Wolfsburg dealt a blow to Borussia Dortmund's Europa League hopes with a 2-1 win on Sunday, inspired by a record-breaking showing from Kevin de Bruyne.
Goals early in each half from Daniel Caligiuri and Naldo proved enough for the home side to triumph at the Volkswagen Arena in a dress rehearsal for the DFB-Pokal final.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fired home a penalty to level the scores in the first half after Diego Benaglio had taken down Kevin Kampl in the box, with the Wolfsburg goalkeeper perhaps fortunate not to see red for the offence.

The visitors huffed and puffed in a bid to find a second equaliser, with manager Jurgen Klopp throwing on the fit-again Marco Reus with 20 minutes to play.

However, they were unable to get back on level terms again, and the defeat leaves them three points behind sixth-placed Augsburg in the Bundesliga table with just one round of fixtures to go.

Wolfsburg will end the season unbeaten at home in the league, having made a swift start to proceedings and broke the deadlock inside the first minute.

Paderborn 0-6 Bayern Munich: Lewandowski and Robben continue Bundesliga title march

The Bavarians ran riot, scoring four times in the second half to make it 14 goals in their last two league games
Robert Lewandowski and Arjen Robben both scored twice as Bayern Munich romped to another one-sided victory with a 6-0 demolition of Paderborn.

The Bundesliga champions put eight past Hamburg last weekend and threatened to equal that scoreline in another emphatic attacking display.

Lewandowski marked his recall to the starting XI, in place of Mario Gotze, with two goals in a first half of few chances.

And Bayern picked off the hosts almost at will following the dismissal of Paderborn's Florian Hartherz in the 62nd minute, as Robben scored twice either side of Franck Ribery and substitute Mitchell Weiser.

Paderborn remain in a position of great danger near the foot of the table, while Bayern hold an 11-point advantage at the summit ahead of second-placed Wolfsburg's meeting with Hertha Berlin on Sunday.

Bundesliga round-up: Bayern Munich score eight; Wolfsburg beat Bayer Leverkusen 5-4

Bayern Munich inflicted another humiliating defeat on Hamburg at the Allianz Arena to remain firmly on course to retain their Bundesliga title.
Two years after thrashing Hamburg 9-2 at home, Bayern went goal crazy again as braces from Thomas Muller, Arjen Robben and Mario Gotze plus further strikes from Robert Lewandowski and Franck Ribery saw the reigning champions run out 8-0 winners.
The victory keeps Bayern eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, while also setting them up in style for the return to Champions League action against Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek.

Bas Dost was Wolfsburg's hero as he netted four in a remarkable 5-4 win at Bayer Leverkusen to keep Dieter Hecking's men in touch with Bayern.
It was three and easy for Wolfsburg at the interval with Dost netting two and Naldo also on target. However, a second-half hat-trick from Son Heung-min, after Dost had completed his hat-trick, and a Karim Bellarabi strike saw Leverkusen get back on terms.
hey lost Emir Spahic to a late red card and Dost had the final say with his fourth deep in stoppage time snatching all three points for the visitors.

Stuttgart 0-2 Bayern Munich: Robben and Alaba secure first win of 2015

Pep Guardiola's side failed to win their previous two Bundesliga games but returned to winning ways on Saturday
Arjen Robben and David Alba both found the back of the net as Bayern Munich picked up their first win of 2015 with a 2-0 victory at Stuttgart.

Bayern coach Pep Guardiola dismissed talk of a crisis after the champions drew 1-1 against Schalke on Tuesday following a 4-1 hammering at Wolfsburg, and normal service was resumed by the Bavarian giants at the Mercedes Benz Arena.

The leaders were not at their best against Huub Stevens' strugglers, but Robben took his goal tally to eight in his last nine games and 14 for the season with a fine strike to open the scoring late in the first half.

Wolfsburg 4-1 Bayern Munich: De Bruyne and Dost leave champions reeling

Two brilliant first-half goals from the forward were followed by strikes from the former Chelsea midfielder, with Juan Bernat's goal scant consolation
Two goals each for Bas Dost and Kevin de Bruyne saw Wolfsburg stun Bayern Munich with an emphatic 4-1 win on Friday.

The first game back after Germany's mid-season break gave Wolfsburg's players and fans the opportunity to honour the life of 20-year-old midfielder Junior Mandala, who died in a car crash earlier this month, before kick-off.

Dieter Hecking's team, who were 11 points behind leaders Bayern in second before Friday's match, proceeded to give a stirring performance from the first whistle - Dost handing them a fourth-minute lead.

Making only his fourth start of an injury-hit campaign, Dutch striker Dost doubled his tally in first-half stoppage time before the excellent De Bruyne took centre-stage.

The Belgium international displayed visible emotion in memory of his countryman Mandala when he made it 3-0 in the 53rd minute.

Although Juan Bernat hit back for Bayern two minutes later, De Bruyne would mesmerizingly turn Dante inside-out to rifle in an unstoppable fourth and seal Bayern's worst league defeat since a 5-1 thrashing on the same ground in April 2009.

Klopp: Dortmund are a bunch of idiots

The BVB boss was left livid after his side slipped to 17th in the Bundesliga table and is now hoping that the winter break will bring about a change in fortune
Jurgen Klopp says he and his Borussia Dortmund players have been left looking like "a bunch of idiots" after ending 2014 with a dismal 2-1 defeat at Werder Bremen.

Teenage forward Davie Selke gave the hosts an early lead, which was doubled just after the hour mark by strike partner Fin Bartels.

Mats Hummels pulled one back for Dortmund but Viktor Skrypnyk's side held on to claim a victory that moved them off the bottom of the Bundesliga and dropped BVB down to 17th place.

I congratulate my players - Guardiola

Guardiola said he could only congratulate his players after Bayern Munich ran out 4-0 winners over Frankfurt on Saturday.

A hat-trick from Thomas Muller set the Bavarians on their way, before substitute Xherdan Shaqiri came off the bench to seal the win late on.

Despite his side rarely looking troubled, Guardiola conceded his team were off the pace during the opening stages at the Commerzbank Arena as a result of their efforts in Europe in midweek but was impressed with the way they applied themselves.

Bayern Munich 2-1 Borussia Dortmund: Robben wins it late to sink BVB hearts

Marco Reus had given the visitors the lead but Robert Lewandowski and the Dutchman were on target to give the home side the win
Robert Lewandowski and Arjen Robben broke the hearts of Jurgen Klopp and Borussia Dortmund as they scored to give Bayern Munich all three points in a 2-1 over their rivals.

Returning Robben sealed the points form the penalty spot in the 85th minute as an influential substitute appearance from Franck Ribery - continuing to work towards full fitness after his recent injury problems - helped to turn the contest in Bayern's favour.

Poland international Lewandowski, who swapped Signal Iduna Park for the Allianz Arena during the close-season, equalised in the 72nd minute after Marco Reus – the subject of the latest tug-of-war between German football's two heavyweights – had put Dortmund ahead.

Reus was the focus of much of the build-up after Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge expressed a possible interest in signing the Germany international earlier in the week.

Bayern Munich 6-0 Werder Bremen: Lahm at the double in Bavarians romp

The club captain scored twice, while Xabi Alonso opened his goalscoring account for the club in a comfortable win at the Allianz ArenaPhilipp Lahm scored twice and Xabi Alonso struck his first goal for the club as Bayern Munich thumped Werder Bremen 6-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Werder travelled to Bavaria having conceded 18 goals in their last three league meetings with Bayern - and the champions were in no mood to forgive them further embarrassment on this occasion with a devastating first-half display.

Goals from Lahm (2), Xabi Alonso, Thomas Muller and Mario Gotze (2) secured the points for Pep Guardiola's side, with the Bayern boss having the luxury of taking off several of his star men early ahead of Tuesday's Champions League trip to Roma.

Even without Robert Lewandowski - left on the bench after picking up a heavy knock while on international duty with Poland - Bayern had an overwhelming amount of attacking quality for their opponents to handle and continued their unbeaten start to the season in ominous fashion.

Werder, by contrast, remain rooted to the foot of the table awaiting their first victory of the campaign.

The gulf between the teams in this top-versus-bottom clash was evident from the off - the pattern of the game set as the visitors chased shadows while Bayern zipped the ball around at dizzying speed.

Despite their overwhelming possession, the champions were made to wait until the 20th minute before taking the lead through Lahm.

Alaba swung in a cross from the left, Muller re-directed the ball into the path of his onrushing captain, who shot low beyond Raphael Wolf from just inside the area.
Just six minutes later, Bayern's second arrived.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was fouled on the edge of the area, and Alonso's clever, low free-kick went under the Werder wall and into the bottom corner for his first goal for the club.

Muller made it three from the penalty spot two minutes before the break - sending Wolf the wrong way after being brought down by Sebastian Prodl.

Schalke fire Keller and hire Di Matteo

The Bundesliga outfit have parted company with the 43-year-old after just two wins in 10 games in all competitions and turned to the former Chelsea boss
Schalke have confirmed the dismissal of Jens Keller as coach and the appointment of Roberto Di Matteo as his successor with immediate effect.
Keller's position had come under intense scrutiny after a poor start to the 2014-15 season in which they fell at the first hurdle in the DFB-Pokal, to Dynamo Dresden, but a Champions League draw away to Chelsea lifted spirits in Gelsenkirchen and back-to-back wins over Werder Bremen and rivals Borussia Dortmund eased the pressure on the 43-year-old.
However, after a disappointing draw at home to Maribor last week and defeat at Hoffenheim on Saturday, Keller met with sporting director Horst Heldt on Monday and was relieved of his duties.

Mainz 2-0 Borussia Dortmund: BVB pay penalty for Immobile's profligacy

The Italian missed a spot-kick after Shinji Okazaki had opened the scoring, thus allowing Matthias Ginter's own goal to secure the undefeated hosts a fine win
Jurgen Klopp's winning run against former club Mainz came to an end as Borussia Dortmund slumped to a 2-0 defeat at the Coface Arena.
The visitors dominated Saturday's opening hour, before Jairo created the opener for Okazaki, the Japan striker scoring a sixth goal in seven games this season, in what was his 100th Bundesliga appearance.
Then, after Loris Karius had saved a Ciro Immobile penalty, Jairo was again the architect as Matthias Ginter put through his own net to make sure of the points, which lifted Mainz to second in the table.
Klopp, a Mainz legend as both player and coach, could only look on as his side spurned several presentable chances - striker Adrian Ramos particularly guilty - in a week in which they had demonstrated strong credentials in the Champions League with a comprehensive win over Arsenal.

Schalke 1-1 Bayern Munich: Howedes seals controversial point for hosts

The Poland striker scored his first league goal for his new club but a Benedikt Howedes second half goal saw the two sides share the spoils

A controversial equaliser from Benedikt Howedes denied Bayern Munich as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Schalke at the Veltins-Arena.

Robert Lewandowski opened his Bayern account to put the visitors ahead with a well-worked strike.

Pep Guardiola's side typically dominated possession, but Sidney Sam's free-kick midway through the second half caused chaos in the Bayern box, deflecting off Howedes and into the net.

It is not important when Bayern win title, insists Guardiola

The Spaniard has stressed his side must focus on maintaining their performance levels after a 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen moved them 23 points clear at the top
Pep Guardiola has insisted that is does not matter when Bayern Munich win the Bundesliga after edging closer to the title on Saturday.

Defending champions Bayern moved 23 points clear at the top with a 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen that followed nearest rivals Borussia Dortmund's 2-1 defeat at home to Borussia Monchengladbach earlier in the day.

Ribery makes outstanding return

Bayern Munich's fit-again winger Franck Ribery came back with a bang on Saturday, scoring twice as the visitors romped to a 7-0 Bundesliga demolition of Werder Bremen.

The Ghost of Gotze: Super Mario returns to haunt crisis-hit Dortmund

The 21-year-old Bayern Munich star all but ended his former side's Bundesliga hopes to leave their season hanging in the balance
When it rains, it pours. A month ago, Borussia Dortmund were sitting pretty, right in the thick of the race for the Bundesliga title and set to make it out of this season's group of death in the Champions League after a brilliant victory over Arsenal at the Emirates.

Now, they are staring at what seemed impossible after an intense summer of rebuilding - an early end to their title challenge and a do-or-die clash in Europe with Napoli.
It seems that everything that could have gone wrong over the last month has gone wrong. First a surprise loss in the return fixture against the Gunners, who scored with their first credible chance of the game after BVB had squandered a number of opportunities, left them on the brink in Europe.

Then, the injuries came. Days later, they lost Neven Subotic in a 2-1 defeat to Wolfsburg and the international break saw Marcel Schmelzer and Mats Hummels succumb to injuries while on Germany duty.
