China Open: Home favourite Li Na to face Petra Kvitova in quarter-finals in Beijing

Home favourite Li Na progressed to the quarter-finals of the China Open with a 7-5 6-4 victory over Sabine Lisicki at the National Tennis Centre in Beijing.

Fourth seed Li kept a cool head in front of a packed crowd to edge out her German opponent and set up a last-eight clash with former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova.
Li made her decisive move in the opening set at 5-5 and when she broke again in the fifth game of the second set, the outcome never looked to be in doubt.Kvitova, meanwhile, came through a tough battle to defeat fifth-seeded Italian Sara Errani 6-4 6-7 (7-3) 6-3 in the third round.

In second round action, No 3 seed Agnieszka Radwanska took just an hour and 15 minutes to cruise to a 6-3 6-2 victory over American teenager Madison Keys.

"I think she's one of the youngest talented players coming out. I think in a couple of years we are going to see her more often, definitely," Radwanska said of the promising youngster, who she also defeated at Wimbledon.

Andrea Petkovic, who put out Victoria Azarenka in the first round, continued her resurgence with a 4-6 6-4 6-1 win over former French and US Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova.

The early part of Petkovic's season was disrupted by injury but she now says she is finally beginning to get back to her best.

"This is the first tournament that I've been able to really keep up my intensity and keep up my focus. I think I played two good matches," the 26-year-old said.

"For me, just personally, it's really important to see that I can still beat the players on the top level, two past Grand Slam champions. It's just a big boost for my confidence, no matter what happens now in the future."

Former world No 1 Ana Ivanovic suffered a shock exit as she was beaten 6-4 6-4 by Polona Hercog, but Ivanovic's fellow Serbian Jelena Jankovic beat Galina Voskoboeva 6-3 5-7 6-3.
